Warning, Spoiler Alert! If you have not watched the movie and you’re a fan, well you are too late to support it but not quite. According to marketplacecinemas, it looks like the film will still run in cinemas until September 1. Note, this is not a review, just facts about it that you may want to know:
- Story. Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston) lost everything, his title as a prince, his love, his family because of his adopted brother Messala, (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army, who returned to Jerusalem and falsely accused the young prince of treason. After years at sea, Judah returned to his homeland to seek revenge, but an encounter with Jesus leads him to the Crucifixion, where he discovers forgiveness and finds redemption.
- Background. 2016 film Ben-Hur is based from 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of Christ by Lew Wallace.
- Adaptation. This is the 5th film created after the novel. Aha! Following the 1907 silent film, the 1925 silent film, the Academy Award-winning 1959 film, and the 2003 animated film of the same name.
- Budget. Total production cost is $100 million. Unfortunately, Ben-Hur received generally negative reviews from critics and has grossed $23 million worldwide against a $100 million budget. So yeah, it’s a flop.
